So you thought living "in style" meant moving away from everyone else and building a nice big house. Think again! Tokyo folk will show you that even in the world's "most expensive metropolis," living comfortably right in the heart of the city doesn't necessarily mean spending a fortune.

 

No minimalist "neo-Zen" interiors here. TOKYO STYLE living is a lot more ordinary—and often a lot more surprising. Who would believe all the stuff? Cascades of clothes, pricey electronic components, fluffy frills, massive collections of trivia, all crammed into these tiny "rabbit hutches." Over a period of two years, writer-photo-grapher Kyoichi Tsuzuki visited a hundred apartments, condos and suburban homes, and lovingly documented what he saw.
Cluttered closet-sized walk-ups whose occupants who use their neighborhood as an
"extended living room." Chaotic studios where piles of books and TV remote controls and pizza menus and instant noodle cups encircle the dweller in a dizzying
"cockpit effect."
